What does "too old" mean?

Face it, sometimes we think we are too old to try new things?  Fear certainly does get in the way, but we need to realize that it can be moved out of the way as well.

What have you been afraid to do, and did it anyway?

I was scared to death when we were at Whistler on a particularly difficult black diamond hill, but I skied down it anyway.  As I watched my kids ski ahead of me, I was determined to get down the hill (preferably not rolling down either) and couldn't admit that I was too old to ski that hill. Fortunately, I wasn't too old.

I've managed to lose that 25+ pounds I've been carrying around for too long, and I've decided I'm not too old to wear a bikini either.  Although my husband does think I'm too old to get my belly-button pierced (I haven't decided yet). :-)

I'm not too old to learn new things.  I'm not too old to try new things (such as para-sailing, surfing and roller blading).  I'm not too old to be stuck in my ways either - there might be a better way to do things than the ways that I know.  I'm far too young to be stuck in a rut!

Last week my older son got his official driving license.  I felt he wasn't old enough, but I can't be an old fuddy-duddy parent, so I let him drive (my car even!).

Too old is a state of mind that exists only in your mind.  The average life expectancy for men and women is now in the 80's ... I'm only half way there, and even if I was over that average, I try to be better-than-average and would do things BECAUSE I was that old!

What have you done in the past that you were afraid to do, but did it anyway?  Share your stories with pride and don't listen when someone says you are too old!

Too old?? I am too old to do some things...have babies comes to mind. And I have noticed that perhaps my learning new skills is a little slower than in my younger years but to admit I am too old to do something new...I am not there yet. In fact, because I have more confidence (as opposed to the reckless abandon of youth) I actually take a few more calculated risks and try things that I used to say, I would like to do "someday". I am proud to be one of the first of my daughter's friends moms to embrace Facebook, chat on MSN and so on. I waited until I was 46 to learn to kayak even though I had wanted to do it all my life but was frightened. I am setting goals to move forward in things I hope to achieve.

I have an awesome inspiration in my mother. While I have heard my mother say she is too old for those 'newfangled things' she also learned to line dance after she retired at the age of 65 and she now, at age 72 goes to line dance for the seniors at the nursing home once a month. My girls howl and tell her "but nana you are a senior" but she says she is not in a nursing home yet. She also walks daily, learned to use a computer in the last few years of her employment, does the New York crossword puzzle daily. My goal is to be as sharp and in as good shape as she is at 72. Too old...yes for some things ...but not for life!

You're never too old to learn! I regularly have people think I am at least 10 years younger than my age.(I am 60)I had my second child at 40, the first at 37, and I keep in touch with my kids by FaceBook. I still have ambition, and expect to get at least one more promotion before I retire! I changed careers at 50, and frankly don't have a clue how to act my age. I too lost a bunch of weight (50lbs) last year, and feel - and look - younger than ever!

I am a blink shy of 30. Still a Spring Chicken in many circumstances. I decided that before I have any more children I wanted to try a kickboxing tournament. These people are late teens/early 20s. While the younger competitors will have, well, youth on their side, I have the inner strength and confidence that comes with an extra decade. I just hope they don't feel compelled to take it easy on the 'older lady'. haha
