What do your co-workers do that DRIVES YOU CRAZY!!!

We work with interesting people don't we? Some of them are really great, and many of them practice being difficult when they go home at night!

My full day seminars and teleseminars on Dealing with Difficult People are very popular. It seems that people get more and more difficult every day, and our normal coping skills just don't seem to work anymore.

Since I like to be realistic, I would like some of your examples of what your co-workers do that drive you crazy! Do they complain constantly, are they disrespectful, do they cheat and lie?

Vent your frustrations. Obviously, no names will be given, don't even give your real name (make up something clever!).

Let's see who works with the craziest of them all!

Enjoy, I know that I will

I work in H/R along with one other employee and a manager. Our manager is an absolute control freak. It doesn't matter what we do or how we do it, she must have it her way and she changes things all of the time. She even goes so far as to tell me how to organize my files. She also has a tendency of embarrassing us in meetings with other departmental managers because apparently we are supposed to know everything and have all information at our fingertips even if it is something we are not involved in. I could go on for pages, but I don't have the time for that.

What drives me crazy should probably be considered more as pet peeves . . . people who speak to me when they can see that I'm on the phone and, worse yet, being asked questions while I'm in the women's washroom brushing my teeth.

It drives me crazy when other staff use or take my office supplies and either don't ask, or don't replenish. How can an assistant be efficient when we're always scambling for supplies?

Also, what about the people that have loud conversations on speaker phones, especially in an open office environment.

How about those that talk behind your back about a problem that should be resolved by a simple face-to-face!

And finally, letting things build up, and discussing them only at "evaluation" time, when they should bring up issues as they arise.

Co-workers that don't want to be at work feel that they have been cheated out of a job that they want. Make an effort to be rude and nasty whenever possible. Even saying good day how was your evening/weekend always has comments like "would have been fine if I knew I didn't have to come in here today" Why can't people like this leave and find another job. Working the shift with this individual makes a toxic day. Pretending to ignore their toxic attitude really doesn't work any longer. Going to the Manager hasn't worked. Letting the Co-worker know that their attitude has an effect on the rest of the folks at work hasn't helped. The response is "I have been here 9 years and it is time I looked out for #1" Well it has been a long 9 years and will be longer until retirement. Any ideas before we lose the good staff?

I think the thing that drives me the craziest is when someone asks you to do something for them and then does it themselves BUT doesn't tell you. I've been asked to find information on something and put it together, after hours of work I presented it to the guy who asked for it. Only to be told, "Oh I did it myself", without remorse. I feel my time is just as valuable as any "researcher" or "manager" if not more. At the very least they should appologize to you and thank you for your effort. Hey or even one step better - they should come and tell you to never mind the job (before you are finished), they figured it out themselves!

My Coworker suffers from "Chronic Presenteeism". Regardless of how sick she is, or with what, she shows up to work to share it with the rest of us. Bad, right? worse: work in a hospital!! She'll mosey on down to the caffeteria at lunch time, coughing and sniffling, and fix herself a bagel or grab a muffin, both of which are self-serve items. She never wears an isolation mask, which we are supposed to do, and then she wonders why people get frustrated with her when they in turn get sick.

I love where I work but in any place working in close quarters, year after year, things get on your nerves...some of mine: a coworker who thinks out loud and needs to do it with you every 10 minutes; people who treat the kitchen like there is a maid and don't put their own dishes in the dish washer or wash up and leave a mess on the table; finally, people who insist on coming to work when they are sick and spread their germs around to other staff and even clients, or worse yet, stopping in with their sick kids while the sick kids run around touching everything and spreading their germs in spite of the fact that we work with clients with compromised immune systems.

At my suggestion our company has signed up for your seminar tomorrow. I can't wait to hear all of your ideas on how to handle some of these types of issues! I'm sure I'll have some great take aways as usual!

    What drives me crazy..........

    1) Newest found love life stories that involve anything to what gift he bought her for their one year anniversay to what happened in the bedroom. Please keep in mind that the lovestruck person is not directly talking to me....she is broadcasting her stories to the person in the neighboring cubicle.

    2) Sharing how much you drank over the weekend. Who cares? I feel like telling them to go to AA already!

    3) Last minute requests that were due yesterday!! "Hello there Manager! I can't help you if you can't help me!" Last minute doesn't always constitute an emergency with me.

    4) People calling my extension when I'm on the phone and not leaving messages as to why their calling. I don't have ESP folks....
